August – Month of the Monkey
August is the Month of the Monkey 🐒 in the Chinese Medicine calendar, and honestly? It feels exactly like it sounds.
We’re in that liminal space between summer’s Fire season and fall’s Metal season. It’s hot one day, stormy the next. Kids are headed back to school (often fighting it every step of the way). We’re still craving BBQs, camping trips, and late sunsets—while at the same time feeling the pull to plan, prepare, and organize for fall and winter. It’s chaos wrapped in sunscreen.
And who better to embody this than the Monkey?
Monkeys are playful, clever, and social… but let’s be real—they’re also loud, messy, and a little ruthless. They steal from each other, scream at the top of their lungs, and yes—they throw sh*t when they’re mad. They’re like toddlers crossed with little trickster gods: equal parts joy and mayhem.
That’s the energy of August.
Fun mixed with frustration.
Play tangled with seriousness.
Mischief right alongside community.
What does this mean for you?
👉 Enjoy the silliness and spontaneity of these last summer days, but don’t get too distracted by every shiny temptation the Monkey tosses your way.
👉 Notice the “monkey on your back”—that restless, chaotic energy—and instead of fighting it, try meeting it with curiosity and play.
👉 Remember that even trickster gods can be outsmarted by joining their game.
This is the Monkey’s gift: they remind us that in times of transition, chaos isn’t something to fear—it’s part of the dance.
So as August unfolds, laugh, play, maybe scream into the wind… just try not to throw sh*t at anyone. 😉
