Disability Pride Month: Healing Spaces Should Welcome Every Body and Every Brain

July is Disability Pride Month — a time to celebrate disabled people, culture, and the many ways humans move, think, feel, and exist in the world.

In my practice at Full Scale Wellness, this month is a reminder of something that lives at the heart of my work year-round: healing should never be one-size-fits-all.

Too often, the world — and especially the world of wellness — asks disabled folks to shape-shift to fit into spaces that weren’t designed with them in mind. Rigid furniture, inaccessible buildings, overstimulating lighting, a lack of understanding around neurodivergence or trauma... all of it sends a message: "You don't belong here unless you conform."

But in my practice? You don't have to conform.

I Work With a Wide Spectrum of Clients

Some of my clients have visible disabilities — including mobility limitations, mutism, or brain injuries that affect memory, speech, or focus. Others are navigating chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, or recovery from trauma that isn’t always visible on the surface. Some live in larger bodies and have faced years of dismissal or discomfort in traditional medical spaces. Many are neurodivergent — autistic, ADHD, sensory-sensitive, or just tired of being misunderstood.

And all of them deserve care that meets them where they are.

I Know My Space Isn’t Perfect — But You Are Welcome Here

My office is small, and not every piece of furniture is custom-built or ideal for every body. But I am always willing to adapt. I offer:

  • A treatment bed with plenty of pillows

  • Options to sit in an office chair or a rocking chair for intake

  • Adjustments in positioning for comfort and accessibility

  • No judgment if you need to move, stim, pause, or ask for something different

Need to pace during your appointment? Go ahead.
Need extra time to answer a question or want to write instead of speak? That’s completely okay.
Need the lights dimmed or space to fidget? Just ask — or don’t. I’ll check in.

This is a stim-positive, movement-allowed, feelings-are-valid space. You don’t have to perform stillness or peace to receive healing. You don’t need to shrink yourself physically or emotionally to “fit in” here.

Access is a Practice, Not a Checklist

I know there’s always more to learn. Access isn’t a box I check off once — it’s something I keep revisiting, asking:

  • Who might feel excluded by this?

  • What could I change to make someone more comfortable?

  • How can I listen more deeply?

Disability Pride Month reminds me to keep asking those questions with love and with intention.

You Deserve to Be Met With Care, Not Judgment

Whether you’ve been told you’re “too complex,” “too emotional,” or “too much” — I want you to know that’s not the message you’ll get here.

At Full Scale Wellness, you’re not too much. You’re a full person with a full story, and you deserve care that honors your body, your brain, and your lived experience.

You're welcome here. All of you.
