How to make your own Fire Cider

Fire cider is one of my favorite ways to preserve the abundance of the garden and herb harvest for the colder months ahead. It's a traditional herbal preparation made by steeping warming, aromatic herbs and vegetables in apple cider vinegar—and one of those recipes that is meant to be adapted to what you have growing, what you enjoy, and what happens to be in season.

Below you'll find my basic Fire Cider recipe and instructions, along with a printable version you can save for later. Think of the recipe as a starting point rather than a rigid formula. Part of the fun is experimenting with different herbs, berries, peppers, roots, and other seasonal additions to make each batch your own.

And if you're local and need horseradish to get started, please take some of mine. I have plenty growing and am happy to dig and share!
